Happy belated New Years from the Howick Hornets! 2018 is well underway and preparations for the Hornets season has already begun.

We currently have four Hornets players in the AFLNZ Premiership which is in full swing and some great footy is being played. Elliot Bennetts who was drafted into the Central Giants as a small forward has helped his team continue their undefeated run through the premiership. Elliot has enjoyed playing among New Zealand representatives which has developed his game.

Kevin Crowe who was also drafted into the Central Giants debuted for the outfit last Sunday making his comeback from injury. Kevin & Elliot combined to help the Giants pile on a 90 point victory over the Southern Saints. The Giants have won 7 games in a row enough to claim the AFLNZ Premiership Title with 2 games to spare.

Ryan White who plays for the Western Crows whom are currently second on the table is also enjoying the AFLNZ premiership. Playing in his original position in the backline he has helped the team be one of the top defending teams in the competition. The Western Crows boast arguably the most experience on ball brigade which Ryan has been put in to play with; further developing his skills.

Luke Williams is an AFL Acadamy player which means he is not officially drafted into any team; rather the Acadamy players are allocated a team on the day. Luke has played with Ryan and had a stand out performance against the Northern Suns which they look to back that performance up as they team up against the Suns again this weekend. Luke also played against Ryan the last week for the Southern Saints. Luke's performance was outstanding gaining him a position in the team of the week. Last Sunday Ryan and Luke combined again to take down the Norther Suns.

There is 2 weeks left in the competition so plenty of good football to come and watch!

The Howick Hornets 2018 season will be kicking off on the 27th of May with a golfing fundraiser. The Hornets will be putting on a golf day at the Howick Golf Club with more details to follow. This is sure to be a cracker of a day so make sure you register early.

The AFL & League club have come together to create the Howick Hornets Netball team. Playing in the Howick Pakuranga competition in a social grade during the winter months the team is still looking for extra ladies to play. The uniforms have been designed and look very sharp. So if you are interested please contact Andrew Azzopardi 021 220 7112.

Building on the success of last years junior workshop the Hornets will be hosting multiple workshops throughout the season to showcase the sport introduce the kids to the sport. Keep your eyes peeled on our website for the next junior workshop.

Finally heading into the official season in September the Hornets will be organising a preseason camp. The camp will be an intensive weekend of football skills and fitness. It aims to get the senior squad firing on all cylinders as they come into the 2018 season looking to better their result from last year.

There's plenty of things happening this year, not to mention the Howick Hornets Rugby League season has started down at the Hornets Nest; we look forward to a successful 2018.

Up the Hornets!
